A Biblical Walk-Through Christ’s Passion at Sacred Heart & St. Gerard Mission

Filmed on location in the Holy Land, No Greater Love is a five-part video series, which, along with the companion full-length book, reveal Christ’s amazing love for us.
Authored and presented by s Edward Sri, No Greater Love also features: Fr. Mike Schmitz, Jeff Cavins, Jennifer Fulwiler, Curtis Martin, Teresa Tomeo, Fr. Josh Johnson, and Elizabeth Sri.

In this study, Catholics discover…

  • The Biblical background to each scene in Christ’s passion.
  • What was Jesus going through at each moment?
  • How did the Old Testament foretell of Christ’s death?
  • Why did Christ die for us?  What did it accomplish?
  • What was the meaning behind the tearing of the temple veil, the crowning with thorns, and other events during Christ’s Passion?

Edward Sri also unpacks commonly misunderstood sayings of Jesus, such as…

  • “Father, if it be possible, et this cup pass?”–Was Jesus thinking of racing out at the last minute?
  • “My God, my God why have you abandoned me?”–Was Jesus really abandoned by the Father on the cross?
  • “You have said so.”–What does that mean?

Most of all, Catholics who take this study will encounter God’s love to the fullest.

Bishop’s Letter: Our Catholic Appeal

Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD (Jer 17:7).

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Trust in the Lord! These words are prayed and exclaimed, the anointing of each day. They are the praise of our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; the fiat of Mary, our Blessed Mother; and her spouse, Joseph. They are St. Peter’s cry to Jesus when he stumbles walking on the water. They are Jesus’ triumphant words and His profound prayer which He taught us. These four words are the words of faith in God.

As I travel throughout our nine counties and meet you, my heart rejoices as you have shown your faith in God; your prayer of humility is ‘Trust in the Lord’. Over the course of the last two years, you and I have learned much about trusting in God as we have experienced the pandemic. Trust in God requires earthly sacrifices and great prayer. Trusting in the Lord means accepting what is placed before us as a gift from God and praising God, prospering what we have been given as blessing. We can trust that God’s strength will make up for whatever in us is lacking.

The ministries supported by your generosity to Our Catholic Appeal build the house of God for His blessing. They sustain the gift of priesthood through Vocations and Clergy Care; form our permanent deacons to satisfy the hunger of the people; teach us to pray and sing within God’s liturgy; lead our young people to know and serve God; offer mercy and sustenance to the meek and lowly; sanctify the dying and bury the dead; keep us safe as we walk the sacred ground of parishes and missions; communicate God’s essential Word through all forms of media that you might also hear God’s Word. These ministries bear fruit throughout our diocese, and feed you, God’s people, within each parish, school, and mission.

When we are able to see with the perspective of God, the measure of our daily living becomes our ability to receive God through the Eucharist and to offer Him to each other no matter the hour or the day. Jesus tells us, “our reward will be great in heaven.”

Trust in the Lord! We delight in the law of the Lord. I rejoice in your faithfulness and thank you for your blessing through a gift to Our Catholic Appeal. May the kingdom of God be our blessing.

KofC #4934 – Announce Family of the Year

In 2021, Our Council began recognizing families that serve as an inspiration to our parish, community, and Counsel by supporting and strengthening Catholic family life.

At the end of the year, each council that participates in the program selects a Family of the Year. The family of the year is one that served as an incredible inspiration to all of us. Our family of the year truly fits this description. This family has been extremely active in all three of our local parishes – Sacred Heart, St Gerard’s and Our Lady Star of the Sea. They have been very active at our Sacred Heart School and Fr Lopez High School. They are well known for helping others in our community and their active involvement with the Knights of Columbus and all our activities.

Sadly, the family and all of us experienced a terrible loss in September with the passing of the father resulting from Covid complications, but that hasn’t affected the resolution of the family to move forward in the way of our Lord.

It is a great honor to present our Family of the Year award to the family of                  Terry &  Barbara Cassidy.
