Obituary

Michael P. McCormick, age 82, of Edgewater, died in the arms of his loving wife at their home on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. 

Born in Waverly, New York to Paul and Mary Broderick McCormick, Michael came to the area in 1991 from Owego, New York.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and sang in the choir; member of Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, St. Vincent de Paul, and the  Knights of Columbus, First Degree. Michael had a passion for deer hunting, and loved to golf. He was proud to be Irish and loved Celtic Irish music. Michael was an avid cruiser and went to McKennas weekly. He was a devoted husband, and will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Sylvia; 2 children, Shawn Patrick McCormick, and Shannon (Steven) Brennaman; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Caleb, Samuel, Amelia, and Bailey Rose; sister, Mary Lou Connelly; step children, Tracie Mahar and Donna Richard. Michael was preceded in death by his previous wife, Bette Lou West McCormick, brothers, Paul and Dennis McCormick and sister, Suzanne Munroe.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Redemptorist Fathers, officiating. Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 11, 2023 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.

The family suggests donations in Michael’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 998 Father Donlon Drive, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168.

 Parish Christmas Party Sponsored by K of C Fr Downey Council 4934 is on Saturday, December 10, 2022  –  5 to 9:30 pm.  Located in the Sacred Heart Social Hall.  Sit down Pot Roast Dinner –  $20 per person ($15 under age 12)

CWA CHRISTMAS COOKIE SALE

The CWA will be selling Christmas Cookies again this year. They will be home baked, decorated and wrapped in a beautiful gift box and will be offered at $12 for  approximately one pound of cookies. They will be perfect   for your Christmas desserts or as gifts for neighbors or your special friends. Tickets will be available after all masses weekends of December 3 & 4 – December 10 & 11, or may be purchased at the Parish Office through Wednesday, December 14.

Christmas Cookies will be available for pickup after all Masses December 17th & 18th at the social hall.

 

Reconciliation Service

During Advent we wait in joyful hope and prepare to receive Jesus more fully into our hearts. In this sacrament, we are granted forgiveness and the grace to live a renewed life.

America Needs Fatima – 2022

“The Traveling Mother of Divine Mercy“  ministry of Sacred Heart church would like to extend you an invitation to join us on Thursday, October 13th at 9am for the “America Needs Fatima – 2022 Rosary Crusade.” We will be meeting on the grounds of Sacred Heart in New Smyrna Beach, in front of the Blessed Mother statue at 9 AM. The rosary crusade should last no more than 1-2 hrs. Our intentions are for “Peace in America.” We will be reciting the Holy Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, along with several other well-known prayers. We hope you can join us but if you cannot, please say a rosary at home for our same intentions.
Please note we will be practicing social distancing and staying safe!
BYOC (bring your own chair, water, etc.)
