Service

For parishioners who have had a death in the family, our Bereavement Ministers are available to offer support and guidance to you and your family in planning the funeral services. Resources, counseling and referrals are available for the bereaved. A Reception following the funeral is available upon request and is prepared by the Bereavement Ministry Team.

The Parish of Sacred Heart and St. Gerard has an annual Memorial Mass on All Souls Day, November 2nd every year to remember and pray for those who have died.

  After taking a break for a few years, The Sacred Heart Bingo fundraising activity has returned stronger than ever! The parish has benefited from the profits of this charitable event. Bingo is held in the Social Hall every Monday evening year round. Doors open at 4:00pm and the Early Bird Games begin at 6:00pm and Regular games at 6:30pm. Also on Thursday Afternoon Bingo is open from January to April. Doors open at 9:30am games start at 11:00pm.

Delicious food and refreshments are available at a very reasonable price. We do not serve alcohol at our Bingo Games, but we have a variety of drinks for you to choose from. Our bingo hall is smoke free, but if you wish to smoke, there are comfortable gathering places immediately outside the hall.

The evening is completely staffed by volunteers. At the present time, our volunteers consist of parishioners.

Catholic Women’s Association is a group dedicated to the unification of all women of the Parish in religious, educational, social, and service activities for the glory of God; and to assist the Pastor in spiritual and material undertakings of the Parish. MEMBERSHIP is encouraged for all women 18 years and over who are willing to put God’s words into action through involvement and participation. MEETINGS are held on the first Wednesday of each month in the Parish Social Hall.

Encouraged by the growth of our Mission Church, Sacred Heart CWA has joined with its Edgewater sisters to motivate cooperation between our two churches and their members, thereby enhancing the efforts of both communities.

DUES are $10.00 per year.

Commission Objectives

CHURCH COMMISSION
Catholic Women called to discipleship and holiness respond with personal witness and service to the church and to the world. The commission work reinforces faith and assists in meaningful ecumenical dialog. It offers a means to enhance public and private prayer, promote sound liturgical practice that is sensitive to the cultural diversity of the church, and provides resources for spiritual nourishment and development of the faith community.

FAMILY CONCERNS
This commission works to assist families in achieving a truly Christian life, and to carry out its responsibilities within the church, civic community, and the world.

COMMUNITY CONCERNS
This commission focuses on action that affects the life, growth, productivity, and well being of all people, especially women and children and the communities in which they live.

INTERNATIONAL CONCERNS
This commission creates awareness of the needs of all women and children throughout the world by generously supporting such interests as Water for Life, Refugee Women Emergency Fund, Madonna House, and Help-a-Child, sponsored in partnership with Catholic Relief Services.

LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION
Encourages legislative advocacy among all members. Through voter registration drives and letter writing initiatives, it provides the opportunity for the members to become involved in the legislative process. It seeks to inform the members on current and proposed laws, and promotes activities that will bring about greater social and economic justice in our society at the local, state, and national levels.

ORGANIZATIONAL SERVICES
This commission is the “umbrella” under which the efforts of the entire membership become integrated. It supports the projects of all other commissions by facilitating the planning and publicity necessary to ensure successful goal completion.

Volunteers are an integral part of everything we do at our Parish. To create a safe environment for all volunteers and participants working with vulnerable populations, the Diocese of Orlando has instituted Fingerprinting for all volunteers and also a Safe Environment Training video and test that must be completed before you can volunteer at an activity.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FINGERPRINTING:

Follow the directions to make a fingerprinting appointment.

When asked for a method of payment, please select “pay by paper check,” so that the church will be billed.

Once you register, keep a record of your barcode number. You will need this number to register for the Safe Environment Training Video/test.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIDEO & TEST:

For “barcode,” enter the barcode number from fingerprinting registration.

For “parish,” enter Sacred Heart.

Log on to view the video and take the test. It’s approximately 20 minutes long. Once you have completed and passed the test, PLEASE forward your results to the Parish Office via email or print out a copy for our files.

A group of parishioners who volunteer their time and talent by working in the gardens on the grounds of Sacred Heart Parish.

These Gardening Angels work closely with another group of volunteers, the Adopt an Island Ministry. This group is made up of teams, and each team (named after a saint, or saint in the making) is responsible for the beautification and maintenance of an island on the parish property.
